Several acres on the highest point of land near Walhalla, called Lookout Point, were purchased in the name of the Grand Lodge. The top of the Point was leveled off and a huge Masonic Symbol was erected on the southeast side of hill, facing ND Highway 32 and can be seen for miles as one approaches from the south. The gigantic emblem, with a pair of compasses 32 feet long and a square with 20 foot sides, was erected in 1951 by the Brothers of Walhalla Lodge #50.
The Masonic Foundation turned the property over to the city of Walhalla years later. After years of not being maintained, the Masons of District #1 raised the money and provided all the labor to refurbish the monument and restore it to its former glory. A special thanks to Lebanon Lodge #34, Tongue River Lodge #22, Milton Lodge #48, Crescent Lodge #11 and the Kem Shrine 49ers Shrine Model T Unit of Pembina and Cavalier Counties. On a side note, the Masonic Symbol is also lite dusk to dawn. It's indeed worth a trip just to admire the site and the view!
